The Additional Support Fund is designed for current ICAS Foundation students who are experiencing particular challenges and would like to be considered for one-off additional support.

In general, applications to this fund would result from unexpected costs or changes in circumstances. This might include:Ìý

  • An unpredictable change to accommodation circumstances, resulting in students requiring support to pay the deposit for a new residence.ÌýÌý

  • A student is required to take time off their part time work due to a family medical emergency and caring responsibilities, resulting in a loss of planned income from earnings.Ìý

  • A student’s laptop unexpectedly breaks down during the academic year and their bursary funding has already been utilised for essential expenses.Ìý

A student’s individual circumstances, as previously disclosed to the ICAS Foundation, are always considered when reviewing an application to this fund.ÌýÌý

ASF Award Level

Students will generally be expected to provide evidence of a specific and receipted expense to receive any awarded grant funding (where a student is applying for living cost support, the Foundation will discuss appropriate expense confirmation with successful applicants).ÌýÌý

No more than £1,000 will be awarded to an individual student in one calendar year, other than in exceptional circumstances.ÌýÌý

Eligibility

The Additional Support Fund is only open to students currently participating in the ICAS Foundation Nurturing Talent programme.ÌýÌý

If you are not a current student on this programme, please visit the Nurturing Talent programme webpage for more information.

If you are an ICAS Foundation student, we will consider your current progress alongside our student requirements when assessing your application, including your academic results, information provided in your student reports and your mentor engagement. Ìý

There is an annual limit to the funds available in the Additional Support Fund, and applications will be prioritised based on the level of financial need demonstrated both in your application and in your previous student reports.

Unsupported Costs

As highlighted above, applications to this fund would generally result from unexpected costs or changes in circumstances.Ìý This means that costs which can be anticipated would not normally be considered under the Additional Support Fund criteria. This includes:

  • Childcare costs, including during exam periods or summer internships.Ìý
  • Bank overdrafts, loans or other personal debt.Ìý

While the ICAS Foundation bursary is designed to support study-related expenses, current ICAS Foundation students could choose to utilise part of their bursary towards these costs as a way of reducing the requirement for excessive part-time employment hours.

Applying

We accept applications for the ASF at any time.ÌýÌý

Applicants will be expected to provide:Ìý

  • A description of their reason for applying to the ASF.Ìý

  • Information about steps taken to mitigate their financial challenge.Ìý

  • An indication of the amount required to alleviate their current circumstances.Ìý

Applications will usually be processed and a response provided within four weeks. Where students are asked for additional information to support the application, a response will usually be provided within four weeks of the student providing the last requested information.Ìý
